How to choose

For softening point, the Automatic Ring And Ball Apparatus is microprocessor controlled with light barriers and a touch screen, while the Ring and Ball Apparatus and Ring And Ball Apparatus Electrical use 9.5mm dia steel balls, the electrical version with a hot plate and energy regulator.
For viscosity, the Saybolt viscometers time a 60 ml sample through a Furol or Universal orifice between 21 and 99°C, while the Standard Tar Viscometer is for cut back bitumen and road oil.
For binder content, the Centrifuge Extractor Hand Operated and Motorised both hold 1500 gms, the motorised one with speed control from 2,400 to 3,600 rpm; the Asphalt Content Tester instead removes the asphalt in an ignition furnace with a 10 Kg x 0.1 gms balance.
For compaction and density, the Automatic Compactor For Bituminous Mixes drops 4.5kg through 457 mm with a preset blow counter, and the Asphalt Mixer Theoretical Density Meter tests 2 samples under vacuum on a vibratory table.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Asphalt Content Tester measure?

It determines the asphalt content of hot mix asphalt and pavement samples by heating the sample in an ignition furnace instead of using solvent. The furnace works up to 800° C with a standard working temperature of 538° C, and a test takes 20-30 minutes.

What comes with the Standard Penetrometer?

A bitumen penetration needle, ring weights of 50 gms and 100 gms, and two sample containers. The head slides on a pillar and clamps at any height, a rack and pinion gives fine adjustment, and a clutch mechanism eases reading and resetting.

What are the settings of the Rolling Thin Film Oven?

Temperature from ambient to 200°c with a PID controller, a rotating speed of 15R ±0.2R / Min, an 85 Min alarm timer, 75 mm of high density fiberglass insulation and a stainless steel interior.
