Didactic Lab manufactures and supplies electrostatic apparatus, from Van de Graaff generators to electroscopes and Faraday's pails. The Van De Graaff Generator With Accessory Kit has a 220mm dome, while the motor or hand driven version is rated at 400kV static power. Gold leaf and needle electroscopes measure deflection against a scale, and the Electric Field Apparatus shows field patterns between electrodes.

How to choose
- For mains operation, the Van De Graaff Generator With Accessory Kit runs on 220 to 240V AC and has 100mm conducting spheres; the Motor or Hand Driven model runs from a DC 10V supply or a hand crank that controls belt speed and charge.
- Compare output and size: the accessory kit version gives a maximum spark length of about 50mm and a total height of 500mm, while the hand driven model has a 23cm dome and weighs 5.68kg.
- The Gold Leaf Electroscope uses a single gold leaf on a metal plate in a metal case, the Electroscope Needle uses a light-weight metal vane with a graduated scale, and the Electroscope in Flask Gold Leaf is a glass conical flask with a rubber bung.
- The Electric Field Apparatus has a transparent 140 x 125mm base for projection via an overhead projector and needs a low current limited 0-5kV EHT supply.
- Faraday's Pails come as four nesting aluminium containers from 75mm dia x 75mm high up to 150mm dia x 120mm high, each fitted with insulating feet.
Frequently asked questions
How is the Van de Graaff Generator Motor or Hand Driven powered?
It runs from the DC power source supplied, with a DC 10V, 300mA output from an AC 230v, 50Hz input, or by hand crank. The hand crank lets the user control belt speed and charge.
What comes with the Electric Field Apparatus?
A clear Petri dish of 90mm dia. x 12mm depth and six electrodes: 2 point source, 2 line source and 2 circular rings of 35 and 70mm dia. A thumbscrew beside each terminal allows fine adjustment of the electrodes.
How does the Electroscope Needle show charge?
A light-weight metal vane acts as a pointer and deflects when the electroscope plate is charged. A graduated scale measures the angle of deflection, and the front glass window slides up to allow ionising material into the chamber.
