This rubber balloon method is used to determine the density of in-place compacted or firmly bonded soils. The set combines a double graduated cylinder in an aluminium guard with a pressure-vacuum pump, pressure gauge, quick coupler valve, rubber balloons and a density plate. It is not suitable for very soft soil that deforms under slight pressure, or for soil in which the volume of the hole cannot be kept constant. Beyond India, the Balloon Density Apparatus is available for export to Gabon, Poland, Qatar, Uganda, Italy and São Tomé and Príncipe.
